Please see our website here for further details.
Will I be able to request a specific station to work at?
If you are successful and offered a post, as part of your contract you will be required to work throughout the Service area of Dorset and Wiltshire. However, you are able to select a geographical area as a preference, which we will consider when making initial postings. This will be discussed with the successful candidate at the point of job offer. You will need to remain at your initial posting for a minimum of three years, subject to the needs of the Service. During this initial telephone conversation, we will discuss anticipated dates of the training course alongside your notice period details.
Are there many opportunities for overtime?
We are unable to guarantee that there will be overtime, although it may be offered on occasion once you have been deemed competent.
Will I be able to stay at the station between shifts?
No, we do not permit anyone to sleep on premises between shifts.
Will I be able to have a second part-time job in addition to being a Wholetime Firefighter?
The Service has a policy for individuals wishing to request secondary employment. Secondary employment can only be undertaken with the consent of the Service.
