Date: 4th January, 2025
Time: 7.38am
Description: We were called at 7.38am this morning (4 January) to King Street, Weymouth to reports of a commercial building fire. Crews from Weymouth, Dorchester and Portland along with the aerial ladder platform from Yeovil (Devon and Somerset FRS) were mobilised initially.
Followed by crews from Bere Regis, Maiden Newton, Wareham, Bridport, Charmouth, Yeovil (Devon and Somerset FRS) as well as the aerial ladder platform from Westbourne, a support vehicle from Dorchester and a water carrier from Bridport. At the height of the incident, approximately 60 firefighters were in attendance.
The incident is still ongoing, and the road is currently closed until further notice.
A no flying zone over the incident area for drones has also been put in place until further notice.
10:20am: The incident is now being scaled back.
11:00am: Attendance has been scaled back to four appliances and two aerial ladder platforms. The fire is now out and crews are dealing with remaining hot spots and dampening down.
We believe approximately 25 people have been displaced as a precautionary measure by this incident and have been moved to a place of safety. A fire investigation will take place when it's safe to do so.
The road remains closed at this time and the no flying zone is also still in place.
2:30pm: We have now left the scene and the road has reopened. A reinspection is due to take place later today.
4:50pm: Eight breathing apparatus users used two hose reel jets and two main lines to extinguish and the stop came in at 4.50pm.
We'd like to take the opportunity to thank you for the patience and support received.
