Date: 12th November, 2024
Time: 3.11am
Description: We were called to Northgate Street, Devizes at 3.11am this morning (12 November) for a fire involving a mid-terraced building.
The fire has spread throughout the whole premises, including a takeaway restaurant, and into the roof spaces of the neighbouring properties, which have been evacuated. No injuries have been reported.
Northgate Street is closed between New Park Street and Market Place while firefighters work to bring the fire under control.
12noon update: We’ve scaled back to four appliances, the aerial and the support vehicle but we’ve still got pockets of fire within the building and checks are still being made of the neighbouring properties to make sure there’s no fire spread. The road will be closed for some time yet. We believe the fire to have started accidentally but the investigation is ongoing.
5pm update - Firefighters remain at the scene of this morning's fire in Northgate Street, as there are still pockets of fire within the affected building.
Work has been carried out this afternoon to make the utilities safe.
We expect crews to remain on scene for some hours yet. Wiltshire Council has been on site to secure the road closure, which will remain in place until further notice.
Our thanks to everyone who has sent us such kind comments, they are much appreciated.
13 November - we left the scene late last night as no hot spots were showing. A reinspection will be held this morning. Wiltshire Council have advised that the road will remain closed for the foreseeable future while the safety of the building is assessed.
