Identifying people at risk
Everyone is at risk of fire. As the responsible person, it is your responsibility to ensure you have the correct fire safety measures in place to identify potentially vulnerable persons in your premises.
If you have or are thinking of employing extra staff over the festive period, they will not be familiar with the layout. If any of your current or new staff are under 18 you will need to review your current fire risk assessment.
If any of your staff will be lone working, you will need to make sure your fire safety precautions take this into account:
- Can they hear the fire alarm?
- Do they have an escape plan?
- Are they familiar with the premises
- Do they require any extra assistance?
- If you have members of the public coming into your premises, are all the escape routes clearly signed and clear of obstructions?
- Do you have provisions in place for parents with young children or anyone needing extra assistance?
- Is your emergency signage clear for everyone?
Checklist
- Do you have any lone workers on the premises?
- Are the fire exits sufficient for increased staff or members of the public?
- Are there suitable fire safety precautions in place?
