- Unplug appliances at night or when you’re not using them to reduce the risk of fire – unless they are designed to be left on all the time (a fridge or freezer) #UnplugToUnwind
- Don’t overload sockets – plugging in too many electrical appliances into one socket can cause overheating. Make sure you #UnplugToUnwind this winter
- Many imported chargers do not satisfy UK safety regulations and can cause serious electric shock, injury or fire. Only buy phone chargers from reputable retailers and make sure the device shows the British or European safety mark. #UnplugToUnwind #HomeFireSafety
- NEVER ‘daisy-chain’ extension leads or adapters – daisy-chaining involves plugging one extension into another in order to reach further or plug more appliances in, and creates a huge fire risk.
- When charging laptops, make sure they are not left on soft furnishings or covered as they could overheat and catch fire. #UnplugToUnwind
- Always buy mobile phone charges from a shop you know and trust, an approved retailer or direct from the manufacturer of the same name as the device 📱#UnplugToUnwind
- Remember to switch off your Christmas lights before going to bed or leaving the property. #UnplugToUnwind this Festive season 🎄
- Never leave e-cigarettes on charge and unattended for long periods, and never leave a device on charge overnight. #UnplugToUnwind
- Flickering lights can be a sign of faulty or dangerous wiring. Don’t ignore, get it checked and #UnplugToUnwind
- During cold weather, please remember to keep warm safely. If you’re using electric heaters to warm you up, make sure they’re safe and away from materials that might burn. Don’t forget to turn them off before going to bed so you sleep well #UnplugToUnwind
