Meet the Chief

Andy Cole QFSM is the Chief Fire Officer of Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service.

Andy started his fire service career over 20 years ago as an on-call firefighter at Castle Cary fire station in Devon and Somerset FRS. In 2008 he joined Dorset FRS as a wholetime firefighter, continuing his on call duties alongside his role in Dorset.

Andy has responsibility for the leadership of the service, providing direction and improvement. He advises the Fire Authority on all matters to ensure the service meets its statutory obligations and delivers a highly effective service to our communities, whilst providing value for money.

Andy has completed the National Fire Chiefs Council Executive Leadership Programme and is the lead officer for the National Fire Chief’s Council (NFCC) On-call strategic group, working with the NFCC, Home Office and other fire services to improve the on-call duty system across the sector.

He received a QFSM in the 2020 Queen’s New Years Honours list for his outstanding leadership and efforts during the Coronavirus pandemic where he played an important role in coordinating DWFRS’s response to the pandemic.

Andy enjoys spending time with his family, travelling and outdoor activities including cycling and hill walking.
