Frequently asked questions – training

Q. How many training courses will happen at the weekends and in the evenings?

A. There will usually only be one course running each day in addition to any station-based activity. Some training already happens in the evening, particularly for the on-call crews; this will continue and there is likely to be an additional evening course once a month. The same applies for weekend courses; some training happens at weekends during the day and evening by the crews at station. The new facilities will increase this by an additional 13 weekend days across the whole year. In the week, evening courses will finish by 9pm. At weekends they will finish by 5pm.

Q. Will there be a restriction on training times?

A. There is already training that takes place some evenings a week for our on-call crews. There may be one additional evening per month to this. Operational training will always finish by 9pm and at weekends by 5pm. We will ensure that residents are notified in advance of evening and weekend operational training sessions.

Q. Will the building be open to members of the public?

A. At this stage, we are focused on providing a sustainable training provision for our firefighters. There is some scope, once this has been done, to enable some accompanied access to the classrooms. We would hope to consider this once the build is complete.

Q. When will the work be complete at Devizes training centre?

A. December 2024
