Meet Antony

Hello, I’m Antony Bholah, married, and a proud dad to two amazing children – a boy and a girl – who keep me busy during my spare time. I’m currently learning Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a new and exciting challenge for me.

I have completed 26 fulfilling years in the fire and rescue service, experiencing a diverse range of roles and responsibilities. My journey started as a firefighter, and then to Watch Manager, where I led multiple operational teams across the Service. This role was both challenging and rewarding, allowing me to develop leadership skills and make a tangible impact in my community.

After my time as a Watch Manager, I transitioned to an instructor role at our operational training centre in Devizes. This opportunity allowed me to share my knowledge and experiences with new recruits, experienced firefighters and officers alike.

Seeking to expand my horizons, I then moved to the National Fire Service College at Moreton in Marsh, where I served as a tutor for Operations, Incident Command, and Operational Leadership. This role was particularly gratifying as I had the chance to shape the future leaders of our fire service.

Upon returning to the Service, and after the merger of Dorset and Wiltshire, I took on the role of Station Manager. In this capacity, I managed training and project teams, focusing on developing training and competency frameworks for incident command and operational training (NOG). This work was instrumental in ensuring that our officers and firefighters are well-prepared and confident in their roles.

Currently, I serve as a Group Manager, where I attend incidents as a ‘flexi officer’ and oversee the performance and operation of 16 fire stations across Dorset. This role is incredibly dynamic and allows me to support a large team of dedicated firefighters while ensuring the safety and well-being of our community.

Reflecting on my 26 years in the fire service, I would wholeheartedly recommend the fire service as a career choice. My time has flown by, and I have had the privilege of working in a fantastic environment with people who are deeply committed to serving and protecting their communities. The fire service has given me a profound sense of purpose, resilience, and camaraderie.

I decided to get involved in this scheme because I am passionate about encouraging others to consider a career in the fire service. It is a profession that offers incredible opportunities for personal and professional growth, and the chance to make a real difference in people’s lives. I hope that by sharing my journey, I can inspire others to explore the rewarding path of firefighting and experience the same fulfilment and opportunities as myself.
