What is “Personal Data”?
To keep you safe, we will use your personal data. Personal data is information that could be used to identify you, for example:
- Your name
- Your date of birth
- Your address/email/phone number
- Your photograph
- Your school name and year group
Where do we get your personal data from?
We collect the personal data about you from:
- Your family (like your parents / carers)
- Another organisation (like your school, the council, a social worker)
- You
Why are we collecting your personal data?
We collect your personal data so that we can help you in an emergency, if we didn’t have your address, we couldn’t send a fire engine!
We might also need to collect your information so you can participate in one of our education programmes or even to enter a competition.
Sometimes we might have to share your data with other people or organisations:
- this could be with your parents / carers
- this might be your school
- sometimes we may need to share your personal data if you are at risk of harm, this is so we can ensure your safety.
Where is my data? Who can see it?
We keep your data on computer systems that we know are safe. These systems have security in place so that no one can access your personal data without us allowing them. Only people who work for us or people we trust will be able to see the data we hold about you.
How long will you keep my data?
We will only keep your data for as long as we need to or if the law says we must keep it. When we no longer need the data, we may destroy it or remove your personal data but keep the bits that don’t identify you.
What are my rights?
You have the same rights as adults. These rights include the right to know what we do with your data, this privacy notice does that along with our other privacy notices.
You can ask us to:
- tell you what data we hold about you
- stop using your data and delete it
- correct any data of yours which is wrong

In DWFRS we have a Data Protection Officer and their job is to keep your data safe and make sure we are following the rules.
